violent vegan vittles

so i gots "vegan with a vengeance" by isa chandra moskowitz:

finally!! and it's looking good. i like especially the tips and info (food not bombs text, how to start your own brunch cafe or public access show), the name of the pizza dough recipe ("pizza dough - a novel"), and this intro to the "muffins and scones" section "whenever i bake muffins i can't help but sing the black flag song 'rise above.' then i get really vegan cheesy and change the lyrics around: 'we are born with muffin pans! (rise above!) i am gonna have my pan (rise above!).' i can't believe i just told the world this but try these delicious muffins and scones and that will help me save some face." hehe. it's a good song!! anyway she's totally not too cool for school and that's a major plus. she does have lots of "punk points" scattered throughout the book but - uh - i'm already punk enough so i for one don't need those (they're really good actually, like "to keep the bluberries [in the sunny blueberry-corn muffins] from sinking to the bottom of the muffin, toss them around in a bowl of flour to coat. that will give them some 'grip' in the batter."). there's also some blurbs about different ingredients from fizzle the cat, and much much more. i still have to explore it. oh, yes, and the recipes look good, too, i will try some out and see but at least on paper my favorite is "coconut pancakes with pineapple sauce". mmm, that sounds so awesome to me right now.

in local cooking news, the other day i came up with the rockingest spicy white and borlotti bean soup ever. simple yet delicious and... spicy. i guess i'll write up the recipe and post it soon.

i've been listening a bit to ludditak, whom i saw at ladyfest budapest - the memory is marred by the ugly homophobic barbie t-shirt-wearing guy band incident during their set, but i still like them. and their name. and their site.

i am also getting into regina spektor. it's strange, sometimes she makes me think of ada milea (not in any super-obvious way, but somehow - i guess maybe they're both so post-modern, ha). one of my favorite songs of hers is "ode to divorce" (the video itself, too). i looove "hotel song", and "ghost of corporate future", "better","on the radio" and "fidelity". she's got loads of music on her site, check it - and a zine (for her latest album): "survival guide to soviet kitsch".
