the first march of its kind in romania

on friday, november 10th, there were two events organized around the international day against fascism and antisemitism in bucharest: an anti-discrimination march and an "antifa concert". as an extention of marius' summary, here's a compilation of news and info:

important comment on how the media covered the event: strange as it may sound, it was not organized by NGOs as reported; the press release mentioned clearly that it was an "informal group of activists" and that some groups, of which several NGOs, provided some support (aka resources), but that's it. and the media stressed that those who marched were "teens" or "people who looked weird" - yes, as with any march younger people predominated, and yes, oftentimes activists tend to look a little "different," and, yes, in a crowd of people some will stand out, whether they intend to and are trying really hard or not... but in fact there were people of all ages and looks at that march!

that said, except for this incredibly stupid blurb the coverage was marginally reasonable, marginally informative and favorable: a success in itself, i think!

hopefully there will be a feature article on imc-romania about it soon. i'll make sure to add here any relevant links. [edit on 11.30: that article is here]

there's also a very good zine which was put together as kind of a "brochure" for the event. anyone interested in getting a copy?

a list of several events that commemorated "kristallnacht" in romania can be found on the site of UNITED for Intercultural Action (European network against nationalism, racism, fascism and in support of migrants and refugees).
