this video is so great (damali ayo of "rento a negro" fame collecting reparations from white people and handing them out to black people. brilliant!) via blac(k)ademic

bujor tavaloiu spunea...: i have an idea (not too sure it's good). i think that a bunch of white people should take a cue from damali and do this action as well. :) it seems to me the panhandling part should be done by white people as well as the actual payments. then damali could just collect the money and pass it on. :) anyway what a "fly way of protesting" indeed (as one of the guys in the video says)! it reminds me a bit of michael moore's tv nation stunt where he gathers a bunch of white slaves in order to take advantage of the remaining time before mississippi finally gets around to outlawing slavery.

hdaisy spunea...: i think the idea of white people panhandling / taking active responsibility for this is really interesting... if you liked what damali had to say in that video, you should also check out her discussion with tim wise for lip magazine's audio series(http://www.looselip.org/). on this she talks more about the role white people need to play in fighting racism...
