piulita georgica*
today is my sister's birthday and i made this for her
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, YO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, YO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
* name invented by my sister at the age of 4 or 5, thusly: she was supposed to recite a poem in front of a group of friends and relatives, for some occasion or other. however, even back then my sister could not be bothered with succumbing to such pressures to conform/perform meaningless tasks for others. so she didn't really learn the poem ("iarna pe ulita" by george cosbuc), no matter how hard we tried to force her to memorize it. then, when the time came for her to recite to us adults and older kids assembled in our living room, she fidgeted a bit, looked around the room a bit, and then got started... kinda. she went: "uuuuuuh, 'iarna.' by piulita... georgica..." [explanation for non-romanian speakers: "iarna" means winter in romanian, and it's half of the title of that poem, "winter on the village street." then "piulita" is approximately "on the village street" contracted, but also means "screw nut," and "georgica" is a diminutive form of the author's first name, george. so in effect, my sister had baptised the great romanian poet george cosbuc something like "screw nut georgie." and she couldn't care less about his poem, either.] the end of the story is that she didn't need to continue her recitation at that point, because the entire audience was busy rolling on the floor anyway. i, for one, literally fell off the couch laughing. my sister rules all the way!
