the way jesus did???
you know what makes me mad? hypocrites. (let me get this straight, christianity is about being so afraid that you are a horrible person that
you need to pound it into everyone's head that no matter what they do they're bad anyway and so they might as well give up now and instead look out for number one and replace the actually trying to be good with "faith"? ok, i can see how the latter option is much easier. but - arrrgh, the hypocrisy!! i really really want these guys to stop me on the street and try their spiel on me. i would totally be like "well, if i am a bad person and many of the people who will be in hell will be just like me, then bring it on. sounds good. and if the conditions are not to our satisfaction, we'll just
organize and improve them." anyway i would so not let that growing pains guy and some other random guy bully or bullshit me. arrrgh. also, the thing about the banana? that was just funny. and homoerotic. and i guess coconuts and pomegranates are proof that god has a stupid brother.)
plus some other rage-inducing stuff. totally related. :D
and so i say thank god for this. hahaha. (note that you can't dress lizzy in darcy's clothes but you can dress up darcy in the dresses!)
this video is pretty funny, too (who knew that david spade was a radical anti-porn feminist?!).

Hypocrites are the most annoying. But, I don't think those guys are hypocrites. They are just stupid sometimes :D This reminds me of "don't worry Cartman, there are no stupid answers, just stupid people" :))
Regarding Christianity there are more theological approaches to salvation. It's pretty difficult to explain the concepts in a few words, but I'll try. In the neo-protestant view the only things needed for salvation are faith in Jesus Christ as the *personal* Saviour + repentance. Now, some mention only faith, which is all right because faith doesn't mean only to believe that God exists, but to have faith in His Words and do whatever he says. Some have more good deeds and some less. The deeds don't matter in the salvation equation, only faith is important and good or bad deeds are seen as a proof & consequence of faith or lack of it. It's all about faith in the neo-protestant view. However, in the Eastern Orthodox / Catholic view, good deeds are important in order to be saved. I personally think this is a wrong way to put it because some may wrongly believe that you need a certain amount of good deeds to be saved (to be good enough) and besides, good deeds that aren't made from the heart are not ok. We all have to remember that no matter how good persons we are and no matter how many good deeds we do, we are all sinners. This is good to always keep in our minds because it makes us humble and meek.
To sum up, the Christian faith says that we all are sinners (of course in different degrees), so we all need salvation and only Jesus Christ can save us if we believe in Him.
Now back to the video.. They say you can't be an atheist, but only an agnostic. If we would use exactly the same logic we could say that you can't be a true believer, but only an agnostic. Anyway, they have big problems with logic and what's worse is that they think they are the smart-asses of the world. And the banana thing was so hilarious :))
well when i say "hypocrite" i'm talking about this idea that just because you are "faithful" you are automatically better, somehow, than another person who hasn't "seen the light" yet. and that just because you are "faithful" you are entitled to badger any random person about going to hell if they don't also become faithful. i also think these guys are hypocrites because they pretend that what they care about are other people's fates when really it's quite transparent that they just want to be able to reassure themselves about what their faith is to them (a "guarantee" that they themselves will get into heaven when the time comes).
i think it's totally fine if you are faithful and you strive to be good and in doing so like to base your goodness around religion (or whatever it may be). however, i think it's horrible to say to people that they cannot POSSIBLY be good and what's more that they will go to hell unless they do what you do, in which case the fact we're all "sinners"/"bad" is quite ok! it annoys me so much! i realize that the concept of salvation is a big part of christian dogma, but unfortunately that doesn't make it ok (for me). and i have an even bigger problem with people paying more attention to the idea of ultimate salvation (a very selfish kinda thing) than to the actual trying to be good in all possible ways.
i dunno, i just have this crazy notion that christianity is about being good (because being good is good in itself) and about loving thy neighbor (unhypocritically and unselfishly) and stuff... and i hate it when instead it's used to beat people over the head in some way.
anyway, you're right: if saying that god definitely didn't make the world implies infinite knowledge then saying that it was definitely god who made the world also implies infinite knowledge. of course, the whole car-maker comparison is beyond stupid: yes, just like you see a car and know that it was made by somebody you see the world and know it was made by somebody, but that doesn't mean you know that someone was god. that's the whole point with people not believing: they don't believe it was god who made the world (and that christianity/relition defines and has monopoly over "goodness") - not that the world was made (or that goodness is good). jesus!! :D
ps: though humbleness is awesome if it's contrasted to an appreciation for such things as power and authority (another reason those guys are hypocrites: they're SO not humble), i don't believe in meekness as a quality. speaking of which, you know my stance on the "and the meek shall inherit the earth" phrase, which i don't think refers to "meek" as in sheeplike or week but as in "downtrodden" (in other words, "the have-nots will rise up and inherit the earth"). 'cause jesus was not at all about "meekness" (rather, he was about strength, not power - just like in the title of this blog :D )!
